Netflix unveils download feature for offline binge-watching

Netflix unveils download feature for offline binge-watching: "CEMBER 1 2016 - 3:04A"

Update 8/12/2016
Still love this feature...

I had a chance to test the offline downloads for netflix and and so far it's been great. I can choose from a range of movies and TV shows. When an item is available for download you click the download button and the movie or episode just starts syncing down to your phone. you can pause syncing and resume it later if required.

I found that a movie was around 400 -500 MB and  the first 4 episodes of stanger things totalled just under 1 GB.

I know it was a feature that netflix was reluctant to put in at first. It's nice to be able to chill and watch a movie on the way to work without having to use up my data limit or use plex pass to sync (Yo plex! we are still waiting for you to discount those plex passes one day).

Unable to delete Publication in SQL - Principal dbo does not exist

I found that I couldn't delete a publication in SQL this morning.  Turns out the database needed to have an owner before you can delete a publication.

Sure enough, specifying an owner to the database then allows me to remove publications.

Android Auto, now on your phone.

I've now had a chance to use Android Auto on my Nexus 6P for the past week and can say that this is the way your phone should behave when driving.

First up this makes the android interface for you phone very simplistic. The interface is reduced to only what you need to three sections recent contacts, navigation and music apps. The text interface becomes bigger and everything on the phone is easier to see and read. The home and navigation buttons also become larger.

Best part about Android Auto is that your voice is the now the main interaction instead of touch. Just yell out "Ok,Google navigate to work" and then a few seconds later navigation is up and running on your phone. Want to listen to music while you drive? Just yell out "Ok google, Play Music".

If you get an message while driving Auto can read it out for you and let you reply without even touching your phone. You can also configure auto replies to let people know your driving if you want.

Updated 21/11/2016: You can now have Android Auto read out your Facebook messages too.

You can also for Android Auto specify that when you connect to specific Bluetooth device automatically start Android Auto and the application will then only start if you remove the phone from your pocket and wake  up the screen (won't start if you leave it in your pocket which is really handy)

Unable to send notifications for Multi-server jobs to custom Operator

So it turns out that you can't configure a custom operator to notify for a multi-server job (SQL 2014). not sure if this is the case on SQL 2016 yet.

This job has one or more notifications to operators other than 'MSXOperator'

BTW if you do manage to save this multiserver job it  may also cause your Multiserver job to become blocked on the target server and you'll need to manually clear it out.

Check if Primary Replica before running a SQL Job

I needed way to tell if my SQL job was running on the Primary or the secondary replica (fail if equals a secondary).

This will still work if runs on a server/instance that isn't Always On

If exists (SELECT name FROM sys.databases a INNER JOIN sys.dm_hadr_availability_replica_states b ON a.replica_id=b.replica_id WHERE b.role=2)
 raiserror ('Not primary',16,1)
else
 Print 'OK'

Google Hangouts separate SMS now

I like Google Hangouts, the problem is now Google had separated SMS and Hangouts  from the same conversation.. This feature was great! you could choose to SMS or IM with the same person. now I have different conversations in SMS and IM for the same person.

I know you don't need to tell me that Google is moving to whatever app now. Google now have 3 IM products Allo, Messenger and Hangouts.

MsxEncryptChannelOptions and Multi-server administration

MsxEncryptChannelOptions and Multi-server administration: "don't mess with registry..... "

That's just like saying Don't drive because you could kill someone. It's technically correct. But we learn to drive so we can do our best avoid that particular result. Just like the registry. you learn what you can and can't change.

Why Sydney's weekend traffic is likely to get worse

I agree witht this.. We were told you'll be better off with Opal.. so Un true.. Travel costs have only gone up and up since Opal (for myself)

If you push up the price of public infrastructure travel you hurt the poor the most. After all this is 'Public Transport' there are no other cheaper options for some.

Some say this is a minor issue and even suggest that public transport should cost more, pointing to regular overcrowding at peak hour. If we consider public transport to be an essential service for our society, and a matter of social justice, this clearly misses the point. It's a case for running more services, not getting people off the system or forcing them to pay more.
Another common criticism is that fares comprise a small fraction of the overall cost of a commuter's trip – about 25 per cent – while the government carries the rest. Why shouldn't users pay a bigger share, some ask? This conveniently ignores the fact that we already cover the government's costs anyway, through our taxes.
Affordable public transport is a right of all people living in NSW. It also happens to be an excellent decongestant for our roads. It's time the state government gets back on our side and recognises the indisputable value of free travel.

Powerwall in Australia: First residential installation of Tesla’s new product complete

Powerwall in Australia: First residential installation of Tesla’s new product complete:

Wow I figure this product would save you around $60-80 per bill if you already have solar (based on a $350 average bill). Telsa powerwall isn't designed to take you off-grid so you still need a power supply contract and don't forget that you still need to pay for daily supply charges and any energy you consume from the grid. Also if you have an electric hot water that is on controlled load then Tesla isn't going to help there either as it's not designed to heat your hot water system.

At a $13000 price tag and only saving  that much per bill it's going to take you 162 bills before you even start to save money. I would personally leave this until it reaches the $3000-$4000 mark until I would consider installing one of these units.

Should I Enable Enterprise Mode Through the Tools Menu or an XML File? | The App Compat Guy

Should I Enable Enterprise Mode Through the Tools Menu or an XML File? | The App Compat Guy:

Basically, I think the answer is yes. Yes you should enable both the XML and the Tools menu for Enterprise Mode.

Just don't enable the tools straight away. Do it after UAT otherwise users will fix their own problems and you will never know something was fixed before going out to production.
