Internet Explorer 11 failing on prerequisite KB2729094 even though the required prerequisites are already installed

I've found that on PC where WMI is slow to respond it can cause issues with upgrading to IE11.

WMI query for Hotfixes timed out. Query string: 'Select HotFixID from Win32_QuickFixEngineering WHERE HotFixID="KB2729094"'  Error: 0x00040004 (262148).

I've found that on some systems running this query can take a good 4-5 minutes to respond. by the time the query returns something IE11 has already quit out and exited the install with a "0x00009C47 (40007) - Required updates failed to download." error.  (interesting though it will still return a 0 to say it upgraded successfully which is a different issue).

In this case opening WBEMTEST and running "Select HotFixID from Win32_QuickFixEngineering WHERE HotFixID="KB2729094"" before hand can help. when you run the query multiple times the second time the query is run it's much faster.

Generally this only affects the slowest of slow machines (ones without SSD's)

Pandora application crashing on Xbox One after a few songs

If you find Pandora on the Xbox One crashes after 3-4 songs (black screen no noise) I find if you pin the Pandora app on the side stops it from crashing.

But you know what? How about MS and Pandora fix the problem so I don't have to do this every time I want to listen to music.

I've e-mail Pandora If you would like to also e-mail them here's the link

BTW its now a month later and no fix yet.

Lottery scam: NZ ‘jackpot winner’ was at risk of becoming drug mule

Yes. If  I didn't enter a competition and then I won a cash prize I wouldn't fly to a different country to collect it.

Lottery scam: NZ ‘jackpot winner’ was at risk of becoming drug mule: "“The depths to which these criminal syndicates will sink in defrauding people is alarming, here we had an individual that was prepared to travel from New Zealand, transiting through Australia on his way to Hong Kong convinced that he was collecting $US165,000 in a lottery he never entered,” Commander Fitzgerald said."

Remove entries from the 'Site Connection' list in ConfigMgr 2012

If you're like me and one time mistyped a connection name in the 'Site Connection' list in Configmgr 2012 you might notice that spelling mistake stays there and practically never goes away.

If you want to clean up your site connection list you can buy removing entries from the MRU list in your registry

'HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\MRU\7\SiteName'

Cisco Anyconnect 4.1* BSOD on Windows 8.1 when user plugs in 4G device via USB

It seems you can BSOD (crash) Windows 8.1 if  you have Cisco AnyConnect 4.1* installed and then plug in a telstra 4G hotspot via USB. I've found Windows 8.1 doesn't BSOD every time but once in every 4-5 inserts of the USB cable.

Uninstalling AnyConnect stops the BSOD from occurring.

Batteriser: Extend your disposable battery life by 800%

Hmm. I will remain very skeptical of this product until it's actually released and tested by the public.

Reminds me very much at this stage of those stupid powerbands.

Batteriser: Extend your disposable battery life by 800%: "Known as Batteriser, the device — crafted from .1mm thin stainless-steel — slides over a range of battery types and promises to increase their life by 800 per cent."

Update:

I am seeing issues with KB3038314 It seems it is causing more than just install failures, I'm seeing that KB3038314 is cuasing performance issues in ASP.Net lists/ General large lists IE 9.0 and 11.0 affected.

If we remove KB3038314 the issues go away.

Microsoft Security Advisory 3062591

This is really simple and really cool.

Microsoft Security Advisory 3062591: "Microsoft is offering the Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) that provides a solution to the issue of using a common local account with an identical password on every computer in a domain. LAPS resolves this issue by setting a different, random password for the common local administrator account on every computer in the domain. Domain administrators using the solution can determine which users, such as helpdesk administrators, are authorized to read passwords.
Compromised identical local account credentials could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker uses them to elevate from a local user/administrator to a domain/enterprise administrator. Local administrator credentials are needed for occasions when logon is required without domain access. In large environments, password management can become complex, leading to poor security practices, and such environments greatly increase the risk of a Pass-the-Hash (PtH) credential replay attack.
LAPS simplifies password management while helping customers implement recommended defenses against cyberattacks. In particular, the solution mitigates the risk of lateral escalation that results when customers use the same administrative local account and password combination on their computers."
